Mutton Chukka Varuval Recipe

I have never cooked mutton in my life before and I am not a big fan of mutton as well.Just got bored of cooking chicken and fish back to back so decided on trying mutton this time.Mutton Chukka Varuval is the most famous recipe and tried it.For a great shock and surprise, it came perfectly as expected.My Hubby just loved it a lot and asked for more, even though he doesn’t love mutton.I am posting this mutton recipes in my blog for all the viewers to surprise their family.

Ingredients:
Mutton – 1/2 Kg
Cinnamon – 1 inch
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cloves- 3
Bay leaf – 1
Onion – 1 large sliced
Tomatoes – 1 chopped finely
Ginger – 1 inch finely chopped
Garlic- 5 cloves
Red Chilli – 1
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Chilly Powder- 1 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Water – 1 cup

Method :
Pressure cook the mutton for 1 or 2 whistles with turmeric powder and salt and keep aside.
Heat oil in a kadai , add cinnamon,cloves, bay leaf and fenugreek.Once it splutters add finely chopped garlic and ginger and saute well.
Now add the sliced onion and tomatoes and saute for a minute.Add the turmeric powder,chilly powder and coriander powder and saute till the tomatoes turn mushy.

Now add the mutton pieces and mix well in high heat and add some water(instead mutton cooked broth can be used).Already mutton was pressure-cooked so no need to add more water.

Keep stirring, till gravy gets the thick consistency.Optionally , a small amount of grinded coconut can be added for a rich flavour.Garnish the dish with cilantro.

That’s it ! Delicious Mutton Chukka Varuval is ready to be served with hot steam rice.
