Spicy Chicken Chukka Varuval

Spicy Chicken Chukka…Yummm!!!I am just indulging by just imagining the taste while writing this post.Believe me, it’s worth a try.My hubby loves this recipe and calls it “Orange Chicken”. Nowadays, if we are planning to cook something with chicken he started to request me to prepare this dish.What is happier than your loved one requesting for your perfect dish ONCE MORE.Sometimes,it makes me feel that I am a great chef(my mind voice is now warning me about some of my disaster dishes).So decided to post this orange chicken recipe here and let me know how it came.

Cooking Time : 20 mins

Serves :2 or 3

Category : Non-vegetarian Side dish

Ingredients:
Chicken – 1/2 Kg(very small pieces)
Cinnamon – 1 inch
Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cloves- 3
Bay leaf – 1
Onion – 1 large sliced
Tomatoes – 1 chopped finely
Ginger – 1 inch finely chopped
Garlic- 5 cloves
Red Chilli – 1
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Chilly Powder- 1 tsp( very red color so my chicken is little orange in color)
Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Water – 1 cup
Salt

Method :
Heat oil in a kadai , add cinnamon,cloves, bay leaf and fenugreek.Once it splutters add finely chopped garlic and ginger and saute well.
Now add the sliced onion and tomatoes and saute for a minute.Add the turmeric powder,chilly powder and coriander powder and saute till the tomatoes turn mushy.

Now add the chicken pieces and mix well in high heat, the chicken itself gives some water.Now add some more water if required,wait till the chicken cooks well enough.

Once the water has been evaporated and desired consistency has achieved.Keep stirring, till gravy gets the thick consistency. Garnish the dish with cilantro.

 That’s it ! Irresistible Chicken Chukka Varuval is ready to be served with hot steam rice or Biriyani.

 

 Tips :
We are not boiling the chicken prior in the pressure cooker so it takes some time to boil.Instead, you can pressure cook for a fast process.I believe chicken directly cooking in the masala for a better taste.
Optionally , a small amount of grinded coconut can be added for a rich flavor.
